Miranda Barnett, M.A. in Public History Candidate
Bio

I became interested in the field of public history during my time getting my undergraduate degree in history at Tennessee Wesleyan University. After gaining some experience interning at a museum, my advisor suggested going into public history when I mentioned my interest in working in some capacity with collections (both museum and archive collections). The experiences I have gained while in the program have broadened my knowledge of the potential careers and fields in public history, and I look forward to what I can achieve in my future.
Research Interests
My main research interest is the histories of those that have been forgotten/hidden in history, as I am fascinated in learning about these individuals/communities and why historians and scholars of the past ignored/overlooked them. This has led me to research Indigenous history in the United States (mainly relating to the controversial history of museums collecting artifacts and remains from Indigenous communities), women's history, and African American history. One of my career goals is to collaborate with these communities to help share and interpret their histories, as I believe the collaboration and consultation with these communities is the best way to learn about and share their stories with the wider public.
